宽中人 The Clarion

"The Clarion" is a vibrant, 100% student-made, award-winning high school quarterly magazine that boasts a circulation of over 5,000 copies with each issue. This publication is entirely run by students, from the training and editing to the publication process. The school’s role is limited to financial support and managing the printing service.

My journey with "The Clarion" began as a campus journalist in 2014, and I had the incredible opportunity to progress to the editorial board in 2016. Over the years, I contributed to 12 issues in various roles, including creative section editor (2016-2018) and deputy editor-in-chief (2018-2019). Throughout my time, I advocated for creators' rights, raised awareness about intellectual property, promoted equal opportunities, engaged the campus creatively, and pushed for digital advancements in our administration.

One of my proudest initiatives was launching a weekly after-school drop-in training for Adobe InDesign, making it accessible for those who couldn't afford the software at home. I also made a significant impact by increasing the commissioning of original student works in the magazine by 30% during my first issue as the creative section director. Additionally, I successfully negotiated higher commission rates for our student contributors, which saw a fantastic increase of 33%. To streamline our processes, I digitalised all administrative procedures within the creative department, introducing the extensive use of cloud-based platforms.

In 2018, I organised a 2-day internal training camp called "Brave & Brainy," where over 40 campus journalists participated. This unique event featured a gamified simulation of investigative journalism, infused with elements of interactive theatre. Participants were immersed in an engaging storyline, stepping into the shoes of detectives to investigate the mysterious death of a media tycoon. It was an unforgettable experience that fostered creativity and collaboration among our journalists!
